How Dummy Surveillance Cameras Kept the Vandals at Bay

When a complex security system is not within your budget, dummy surveillance cameras are an inexpensive alternative that can be almost as effective. Our local Community Services organization had been the target of vandals again and again. It began with minor annoyances such as vandals tipping over a newspaper box and scattering newspapers around the grounds and in the street, but over time it began to escalate into more destructive acts, which included spray painting and smashing beer bottles in the parking lot. After gas was siphoned out of a van belonging to the organization, Community Services decided that action was needed.
Because Community Services is a volunteer-based organization, funded entirely on donations and staffed by volunteers, there was no money in the budget to cover the cost of installing security cameras. Fortunately, one of the volunteers suggested something that was almost as good that would fit within the organization’s meager budget.
Dummy surveillance cameras that looked exactly like real surveillance cameras or security cameras were installed in key locations, where they would be highly visible to intruders. These cameras looked so real that they were indistinguishable from actual cameras, right down to the LED lights that made it appear as if they were recording everything.
Several of the volunteers were skeptical, but after several months Community Services was still free from vandalism. Dummy Surveillance Cameras are obviously not as good as real surveillance cameras because they can’t help you if something does happen, but they are an excellent deterrent against thieves and vandals.
Most individuals who are up to no good will avoid any area that is monitored by security cameras. These brilliant little devices can help protect businesses against losses that result from theft, and cause burglars to steer clear of your home and look for an easier target. That makes them great for home security and business security too.
